Abstract: Becaused of the electromagnetic induction between overhead ground wires and conductors, there is a huge power loss of overhead ground wires. Systematic study was carried out on the energy-saving grounding technology for overhead ground wires. The control principle of induced voltage of overhead ground wires was proposed, and different energy-saving grounding modes and calculation formula of segmented distance for overhead ground wires were presented according to single-circuit or double-circuit. Then, this paper proposed the selection requirements of ground wire insulator and its parallel gaps, and also introduced in detail how to choose the gap distance under standard atmospheric pressure, as well as different altitude, temperature and humidity conditions. For ground wire insulators in the icing area, this paper also proposed technical requirements of insulation configuration and DC ice melting. Finally, this paper suggested a variety of energy-saving splicing schemes of OPGW, and also introduced the common OPGW fittings. The proposed energy-saving grounding technology of overhead ground wires has been applied in Guangdong Power Grid, including overhead transmission lines in icing zone and non-icing zone.
