Abstract: This paper analyzed the research status of aging evaluation for composite insulators at home and abroad; introduced seven kinds of commonly used aging evaluation methods and their advantages and disadvantages: hydrophobicity classification method, static contact angle method, scanning electron microscope (SEM) method, leakage current measurement method, chalking observation method, hardness test method and energy spectrum analysis method; mainly analyzed the characteristics and defects of four new method: Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy analysis method, ultraviolet imaging method, thermally stimulated current (TSC) method and nuclear magnetic resonance method, and presented relevant experiment results. The results show that: all the aging evaluation methods of composite insulators have their advantages, disadvantages and applicable conditions; the methods based on space charge test and conduction current test will become the main research direction of the aging evaluation for silicone rubber material in the future.
