Abstract:

The conduction of power electronic devices in DC hybrid circuit breakers (CB) relies on arc voltage, which will easily cause overcurrent, overvoltage and other problems. In view of this, this paper proposed a new current-limiting DC CB topology, designed the equalizing circuit of its solid-state switch and carried out the simulation analysis. The proposed topology does not produce loss in the normal operation of CB, and instantaneous trigger solid-state switch with quickly cutting short-circuit current during short-circuit faults. The equalizing circuit can balance the voltage and current of each power electronic devices without affecting the failure removal. Finally, the proposed topology was simulated by PSCAD/EMTDC. The results show that the proposed new current-limiting DC CB can not only limit the current rising rate when the fault occurs, but also cut fault quickly and effectively protect the solid-state switch.
