Abstract:  ABSTRACT: UPFC (unified power flow controller) in Nanjing western power grid is the first UPFC project in China, which realizes the flexible and precise control of the power flow in Nanjing western power grid. However, domestic and abroad research on UPFC control modes  only stay at control station level before project put into operation. There is little relatively research on the control modes having the global optimal control ability for the operating projects. This paper studies the multi-period and global optimal control modes of the operating UPFC project based on the idea of optimization. Firstly, the grid data of East China region is equalized in BPA and MATLAB, and the multi-time section data of Nanjing western power grid are obtained. And then, the dynamic optimal power flow model with UPFC considering load change is established, which is solved by primal-dual interior point method. Finally, the conversion strategy for UPFC control modes under different load conditions is proposed, which further improves the economy of UPFC.
