Influence of Thermal Energy Storage on Performance of Supercritical Air Energy Storage System

Abstract: Supercritical air energy storage system is a kind of new energy storage systems. Thermal energy storage is the key technology to improve the system efficiency. This paper establishes the thermodynamic model of supercritical air energy storage system in charge process, storage process and discharge process, and mainlyanalyzes the influence of thermal energy storage on the system performance. The analysis results show that, the charge efficiency decreases significantly with the increase of storage water flow in charge process; the storage efficiency decreases with the growth of the storage time in storage process; and the discharge efficiency firstincreasesand then decreases with the increase of the storage water flow.The system efficiencyin the global process first increases and then decreases with the increases of storage water flow, with the highest estimated value of 68.3% at the dimensionless storage water flow of 0.75.
