Abstract:  ABSTRACT: Sub-synchronous oscillation (SSO) problem for thermal power generators can be fastly and effectively solved by SSO mitigation methods based on power electronics. This paper deduces and analyzes the mechanism of damping and interdicting SSO using parallel voltage sourced converter (VSC) based on the principle of the complex torque coefficient approach, and proposes a control strategy for SSO which combines the damping and the interdicting methods. According to the SSO problem in actual project, this paper constructs the electromagnetic transient simulation model for a real power system, and verifies the proposed method through the simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed mitigation strategy is more effective than other straties before
