This paper discussed the necessary and feasibility of steel tube towers application in UHV AC transmission line, the challenge of large scale application, as well as the achievements in research, standardization design, manufacture ability, construction technology based on the Huainan-to-Shanghai 1 000 kV UHV AC pilot project.
