This paper studied the fault characteristics of the inverter side of capacitor commutated converter (CCC) and the strategy, principle and operation time of the follow-up fault after avoiding a short single-phase fault. Based on the series compensation technology of HV lines in AC system, the defect that it was difficult to be resolved after the inverter side fault of CCC in DC transmission system was resolved successfully, by using the strategy of 'bypass breakers' for the first time. The feasibility of the strategy was verified through the simulation. The research results have great significance for the improvement of the dynamic characteristics of CCC HVDC transmission system and its further development.
