Temperature Measurement and Protection Scheme of  10 kV Medium-Voltage Motor for AP1000 Nuclear Power Unit

Abstract

 

As the critical equipment of nuclear power plant, 10 kV medium-voltage motor plays a significant role in the safe operation of nuclear power plant. In the standard design of AP1000 nuclear power plant, the design of temperature monitoring and protection strategy for 10 kV medium-voltage motor is rather different in existed nuclear power plants from that in conventional thermal power plants in China, which demands further discussion. From the aspects of advancement, reliability and economic efficiency of the components, the temperature control and protection scheme of 10 kV motor were discussed for some critical components such as distributed processing unit (DPU), I/O module, Modbus communication, SEL-710 and SEL-2600. The results have shown that, the conventional scheme AP1000 standard design scheme for temperature measurement and protection for medium-voltage motor both meet the relevant requirements in the aspects of real time and reliability. Specifically, in the aspects of technology and economy, the scheme of AP1000 standard design is much better than the conventional scheme. The designer and customer can choose the temperature control and protection scheme for medium-voltage motor according to the design concept and the mode of operation and maintenance.
